Interaction Design in the Wild - Untitled

Abstract

What if you could create an environment. Any environment one could envision. It could be you, it could be your friend. Technically you can already do that. Take a hike to Ikea or any other place, get what you need and design a reality you'd like to live in. But in case of recreating an environment for particular animals willing to live in?

Abstract

How about sustaining their natural behaviour at a location that is originally not any of their own? Keeping them healthy and ready, if needed, to be released in the wild? There are so many details ever-important in the animal world that are just so difficult to replicate in anywhere else. Zoos make attempts by designing and developing environments that will be suitable for animals, even individuals do so but there are always a number of constraints that make it difficult, especially financial-wise for both individuals and institutions to keep animals living in enclosures in full-health.

Abstract

My poposition is a projected environment. A dome, into which an animal can drop in anytime, positioned within their enclosure, although being a part of it. In such a dome, any environment could be recreated, all the way from grasslands, mountains, forests, to some that could be considered as imaginary and abstract. Such environments could entails activities engaging animals in hunting or any other behaviour that could appear in the wild but are not easily sustained in an artificial setting. Such a dome is scalable, may be easily rigged with sensors to monitor animals' lives and behaviour and easily adjusted by a Zookeeper, anytime if need be.
